SOUL SURVIVORS: Maritri and the SoulFolk Experience / Hanifah Walidah feat. Black Patti

Out of the dense musical territory that lies between New York and Los Angeles, the SoulFolk Experience will be presenting their heartfelt, soulful, melodic grooves for a night of simple, pure, feel-good music.
Conceptualized by popular singer-songwriter Maritri (last seen at Irondale performing with M.U.G.A.B.E.E.) this multi-instrumental, highly acclaimed artist conglomeration features musicians well known in NY rock, jazz and folk circles. Featuring individuals such as V. Jeffrey Smith, Shelly Nicole, Kay Ashley, David Pilgrim and Jeff Jeudy, the collective boasts experience with artists such as Barbra Streisand, the Five Blind Boys of Alabama, the Indigo Girls and Me'shell N'dege o'cello. Though a relatively new ensemble, the SoulFolk Experience have already managed to earn themselves a regular, monthly engagement at prestigious New York music venue The Cutting Room and are due to release their first compilation album soon. Through their continuous touring and presence in the professional music world, the SoulFolk Experience is fast becoming a popular and sought after ensemble.
Having just shot and produced her latest video “Do You Mind” off the soundtrack of her new documentary “U People” and after just completing a new album “Wacha Playin’” with multi-national neo-funk band the Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Hanifah Walidah is easily defined as one of the hardest working renaissance women in the arts. Her work over the past 15 years with spoken word, music, theater and film, reads like a list of cultural milestones in almost every arm of the urban arts. Now the multi-talented Hanifah Walidah introduces her new band Black Patti. Black Patti are them other girls. A mix a digital funk, house and a stir of Ms. Butterworth.
