This is a great moment for Irondale. We are realizing a dream we’ve kept alive for 25 years: a home of our own. At long last, Irondale has ample space and new opportunities to create our own work, present innovative ensemble theater, and to serve the wider community. Our theater, a simple room, offers unlimited possibilities. Your Annual Fund support is essential to help us achieve our mission. At the same time, we also must continue to seek funds to complete the Capital Campaign that created the Irondale Center.
We are moving into a historical, grand venue that will be a key creative center in the vibrant BAM Cultural District. Our plans include:
- Opening the season with a revival of our critically praised Peter Pan, a version as suitable to adult audiences as it is to children, based on JM Barrie’s novel
- Immediately we'll follow with London Cries, a World Premier that will first be performed at the Irondale Center before playing at London’s Old Vic. Irondale is bringing in the acclaimed director Di Trevis to stage the piece.
- Creating a new theater piece in the spring of '09 with Irondale’s professional ensemble and members of the community: A People’s History of Fort Greene. This will also inaugurate an arts festival to be called Fort Greene Alive! that will bring neighborhood dance, theater, and performing artists into the Irondale Center, as well as visual artists in our planned gallery space, to celebrate the history, diversity, and creativity of one of Brooklyn’s most significant and historical neighborhoods.
- Presenting eight Family Theater Days, led by Irondale artists and guests, which will feature children’s theater, workshops, musical performances, and even an audience-created circus afternoon with juggling, tumbling, clowning, and honking horns.
- Presenting Friday Late Nights featuring small performances of improv, music, comedy, poetry, and dramatic readings.
- Creating the Irondale Youth Theater Ensemble to train and present Brooklyn’s teenage artists in original work.
- Continuing the in-depth educational programs we’ve created in schools all over New York City.
- Developing programs still unknown, limited only by our imaginations . . . and yours
If you’ve read this far, don’t stop now . . . we need your support to make this all work!
When the Irondale Center opens, we'll have spent almost $2.6 million in capital money to renovate the new space, and there will still be debts to repay. We hope that you will consider honoring your family or a special friend by making a contribution or a pledge of $5,000 or more to our Capital Campaign and be listed on a permanent plaque in our lobby. But please give at the level that you feel most comfortable
