BATHSHEBA is an immersive, irreverent retelling of the story of David and Bathsheba, told by The Exodus Ensemble through the cracked lens of a modern day cult. Welcome to the world of Sun Ranch, an insular community led by the self-styled prophet David King. You’ve joined us just in time to witness the selection of The Bathsheba, a woman anointed by God to birth a divine child of peace. This Biblical parable turned psychological thriller puts each of its participants into the thick of the action as players of a dangerous game. Utilizing live music and liberally offered drinks, security monitoring and projected live feeds, BATHSHEBA lures both its cast and audiences into a too-intimate world of sinister surveillance and mental control, where faith becomes a weapon and rebellion is survival.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

The Exodus Ensemble is a collective of 13 artists from Los Angeles, Chicago, NYC, Salt Lake City, and Atlanta who joined forces in 2020 to create the most electrifying theatre company they could imagine in the heart of Santa Fe. Though their roots span the country, the ensemble first met in Chicago as students at DePaul University’s theatre school. After years of collaborating at the conservatory, they embarked into professional careers, working with major theatre companies and appearing on screens through Netflix, AMC, Quibi, and NBC. Early in the 2020 pandemic, the alumni group reconnected and made a radical decision, leaving their cities behind for New Mexico where they began building a repertoire of original, wild and immersive theatrical productions. Living and rehearsing together as a “quaran-team,” the ensemble transformed bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens into rehearsal spaces. Over the next three months, they created a wholly original adaptation of Chekhov’s 19th century Russian drama, Ivanov. Since completing that first work, the ensemble has continued to push boundaries, crafting six more original experiences. The Exodus Ensemble is a nonprofit creating bold, immersive, and avant-garde theatre. Operating on a 100% donation-based model, the company is committed to making innovative performance accessible while ensuring every donation directly supports its artists and productions. BATHSHEBA marks the company’s Under the Radar debut.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Under the Radar brings bold, risk-taking artistry to New York City in a celebration of  groundbreaking theater and performance with companies from around the world and from just down the street. Produced in collaboration with dozens of venues at a selection of historic and emerging theaters, the festival showcases innovative multidisciplinary artists whose work speaks powerfully to the present moment.
